My Brand Story:

Let me share my real story with you: My parents immigrated here from Jamaica, and with no doctors in my family, becoming a physician was only a dream. But growing up, I worked very hard to make that dream a reality. I was raised in the suburbs of New Jersey and graduated with honors from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey with a degree in Public Health and a minor in Biology. I was gifted acceptance and partial scholarship to attend New York Medical College. After earning my medical degree, I completed my residency in Family Medicine, where I was nominated and chosen to serve as Chief Resident. It was also during my residency where I met H, my now fiancé.

To everyone looking in, I appeared to have a perfect life. On the path to a successful career. Love. Everything all together. But I have experienced my fair share of downsides… Let me take you back to my college years.

I juggled numerous jobs and on the side I enjoyed modeling. One Thursday evening I was in Manhattan on set for a photo shoot. I finished taking my round of pictures and thought to myself, I nailed it! After all, I had been preparing for this shoot for weeks and meticulously watching my diet. After we finished taking my pictures, the photographer called me over to review the photos. He began to scroll through the photos, shaking his head no, nope, no. I then watched him as he took his eraser and began to slim down my waist. Then my hips. Then my thighs. My self-confidence was completely shattered to an all-time low.

This experience left me feeling insecure, with negative thoughts brewing about my body and feeling like I was not good enough.  Friends and family close to me noticed a change in my appearance and attitude. Not to mention I had compromised my health by developing unhealthy habits like smoking and skipping meals to maintain my appearance.  My mood began to change, as I gave up on taking care of my looks. When I looked in the mirror, I did not recognize the woman staring back at me.

After this experience, I said “bye-bye” to my model dreams and continued the journey in medicine. I made the decision that I was going to implement positive lifestyle changes to live as happy and healthy as I could.  One by one, I started making small changes which helped me on the path to success. However, something deep down within me knew that being a doctor was not the end be all. I knew that I had a higher purpose. As I reflected on my journey to “ Dr. Kristamarie”, I remembered my college self and how I never want women to feel the way I did when that photographer looked at me in disapproval. That is why I have committed myself to helping women feel great about themselves – to feel beautiful, look beautiful, and accomplish their dreams.

This experience fueled my desire to help women feel healthy, confident, and bold through adopting healthy lifestyle habits, improving their style-savvy, and serve as a source for career inspiration. The clothes we wear have an uncanny ability to help us feel beautiful and confident, whether we notice it or not. When this is paired with healthy lifestyle choices, it’s a recipe for success! My love for style, fashion, and healthy living inspired me to help women such as yourself rediscover their beauty feel confident, in their skin, and find the inner boss so that you can share your message with the world too.

What exactly does “glow up” mean? It’s certainly more than just the alteration of a person’s outer appearance. I see “glow up “ as a comprehensive transformation where an individual is healthy, feels fabulous, on the inside and out all while conquering their goals.

Remember you don’t have to keep looking beyond yourself for a model of “goals”. You are goals and I’m here to help you take shape.
